Anxiety around AI persists among workers despite a strong job market
A recent study reveals that workers fear the impact of AI on their jobs, thus affecting their productivity.

The impact of artificial intelligence on employment
The world of work is evolving rapidly, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to raise concerns among workers. Despite generally strong employment figures, many employees feel threatened by the possibility that AI will replace their positions.
According to the People at Work 2026 report by ADP, which surveyed over 39,000 working adults across 36 markets, the majority of employees fear that AI will affect their jobs. Indeed, only a quarter of British workers are confident that their jobs are safe from automation, a figure that drops to 21% in Europe and 22% globally.
A trust gap related to communication on AI
The ADP report highlights a significant gap between workers' expectations and the reality of the job market. Employees in intellectual positions feel more secure than those in repetitive roles. About 34% of British intellectual workers believe their jobs are secure, compared to only 19% of workers in repetitive roles.
This perceived insecurity impacts not only employee satisfaction but also their productivity. Workers confident in their job security are six times more engaged and three times more productive. They are also twice as likely to stay with their employer.
Enhancing job security to improve performance
To address these concerns, it is crucial for employers to improve communication and be transparent about organizational and technological changes. They must also invest in training and skill development to reassure employees about their professional future.
Employees who feel supported and secure in the face of technological changes are likely to be more productive and engaged in their work.
